The kids have been sick all week and now it’s 36 degrees outside and either raining or sleeting…I’m not really sure.  I thought it was time to remember only 2 weeks ago when we were all out camping in the beautiful fall weather.  We took a family picture right before heading out (at my request, of course) and, while it wasn’t anything we’ll hang on the wall, I love it!

Here’s the one of me checking out the self-timer.  Thought you’d enjoy my fish face:

The best picture we got, not too badAnd here’s what happens when we ask them to smile (yet Sammy brought home school pictures this week where he has an amazing smile.  I don’t get it.)

Here’s a short clip of Abraham eating his dinner. He usually feeds himself, but he was enjoying being fed and hamming it up for everyone. He also doesn’t usually wear a hood at the table.

Charlie and the boys roasted some marshmallows Monday morning and they were all very cute together.   A little bit later, Sammy and Eli were off doing their own thing so I wanted to try to take a picture of me and Charlie together.  I was holding Abraham but didn’t think anything of it.  The problem was that I was also holding a loaded roasting stick.  And Abey loves to get into things. He succeeded in removing the marshmallow from the stick, getting it on my mouth and all over our hands! This sticky stuff is just so interesting to a 16 month old!

Sunday late afternoon we headed out for an overnight camping trip with the boys–our first as a family of five.  We camped out in Nana’s yard once before Abey, so we were pretty inexperienced as far as family camping goes.  It was a lot of fun, but a lot more labor intensive and stressful to be a parent on the trip than it was when I was a kid!  🙂  The boys really loved the great outdoors (it was gorgeous and we had a great spot!), but Abraham was a bit high maintenance…wanting to be in the fire, not wanting to fall asleep at night without his crib.  Sammy and Eli are at great ages for camping!  They had fun, would hang out around the fire and weren’t really a danger to themselves.

We made a campfire, had hot dogs, s’mores, made another fire in the morning, gathered lots of firewood, s’more s’mores for breakfast, went on a hike, and enjoyed the scenery.  Eli wants to add that they pretended to be panda bears when they played in the tent Sunday evening.  I have a lot of great pictures I want to post…for the grandparents…so we’ll start with some around the fire.

Captures the kids well…Sammy talking, or singing…Eli working on something…Abraham doing something that could easily end in an injury.

S’mores, only Eli cooked the marshmallow for about 3 seconds, then ate it right off the stick!

Sammy knows how to eat a s’more!  (Eli blowing a super blow on the fire to make it bigger)

Marshmallow right off the stick.  Great breakfast.

Boys watching Charlie pour water on the fire as we were leaving.

…and Abraham wanted to breathe in the smoke

I’m so glad we decided at the last minute to go on a camping trip before fall passes!  It was a really fun time out in nature and with our boys!

I wanted to share a typical Sunday morning with the Evans boys.  We go to church a little after 10, but Sammy, Eli and Abraham still find time to be creative with their time!

Smarter than the traps…here I come, Eli!

Now it’s a hat 🙂

I hope your morning’s are as adventurous!!  Trying to remember this busy (and fun) phase will be over before we realize it.  We love these boys!

We went apple picking a few weeks ago!  After a windy trip to Bedford, we got to the apple orchard and the boys ran free (while looking out for bees).  It was very nostalgic for me since my grandparents had an apple orchard when I was young.  It was fun helping my kids pick apples while remembering doing it as a child myself.  Abraham, being the third child, was allowed to eat an apple and fell in love.  🙂

Sammy holding the bag while Eli picked an apple.  They were very good at their jobs!

Looking out for fallen apples…Charlie’s favorite photo

Can you believe this cuteness?  He somehow found a cute little apple and worked on it the whole time we were at the orchard.

Having fun

It’s so beautiful here in VA!

Our friend Caleb accompanied us on our outing

Eli enjoying the outdoors!

Sammy had fun apple picking, but I think the highlight for him was talking to Mr. Caleb about superheros.  For over an hour.  They both had a blast.

**Stay tuned for photos of Abraham with his favorite apple, then having it taken away when it was time to drive home.
